COPPERTONE CLEARLYSheer Sunscreen

I was received complimentary samples of and coupons for Coppertone ClearlySheer from BzzAgent to try out and give my opinion on.

About the Product:
Coppertone ClearlySheer sunscreens were designed with your skin in mind. It is a great way to get the everyday sun protection that you need.

Some benefits of this product:
  • Absorbs in seconds for a clean and light feel
  • Moisturizing formulas help leave your skin soft and smooth
  • Won't clog pores or cause breakouts (clinically tested on acne-prone skin)
  • Matte finish is perfect for use under makeup

My thoughts...
I really did like how easy this sunscreen was to apply and rub in. After applying it I did not feel like I had anything on my face at all. I also used it on both of my kids' faces. They both have somewhat sensitive skin and it did not irritate either of them at all, which was terrific to see. While being outside in the bright, warm sun, none of us got burned. In fact, none of our faces even got red at all from the sun! So it certainly provides the sun protection that we all need. My kids liked it because it didn't take a lot to rub it all in and didn't take long for it to be absorbed into their skin. The only negative for me was that for some reason it caused a horrible reaction to my eyes (and yes, I washed my hands after applying it to us all). My eyes felt horrible and were so itchy after applying it. It did not effect either of my kids though, which was great to see. I would definitely buy this sunscreen to have on hand because of how great it works!

So Excited!!

I am so excited today! Tonight we are ordering our 2nd grade curriculum for next year! We are going with ABeka's Independent study DVD program. Taking part in one of their online informational meetings about the academy this afternoon.

Also excited because the cursive writing books I ordered through ABeka come today. I had to explain to Kid1 why I had to order him the books - he didn't realize that ABeka starts to teach cursive in Kindergarten. With the cyber school we are currently with they don't start until mid-2nd grade so he has had no cursive writing experience at all as of right now. So we'll be working through the cursive writing books this summer to get him all ready for 2nd grade next year with them.

Thankfully there isn't too much that was covered in 1st grade ABeka that was not covered in 1st grade with our cyber school. I'm going to be looking over what all they learned in 1st grade to see if there is anything else I need to help prepare him for for next school year.

So its an exciting day in our house today! Even Kid1 is excited to get the books and is excited for me to order the curriculum for next year! :)

We Have Made Our Decision!!

Well my husband and I have made our decision - we are taking our son out of cyber school for next year and I will be traditionally homeschooling him. I'm excited...I'm nervous...So I guess you could say I am nervously excited :)

We are going to use ABeka Academy's 2nd grade DVD video independent study program. I really like what I have seen of their curriculum and am excited to get it ordered here soon. And another perk is I get to put my college education to use some more. I have a Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. Now, Kid1 is a bit nervous about this change since it is something new, curriculum he has never experienced before, but I know he will adapt well and do great with it. Will be some learning and adjusting for both of us to do.

Just like being a stay at home parent isn't for everyone, I know homeschooling is not for everyone as well. And that's fine. I've had people who just don't understand why we have chosen to cyber/homeschool. But we know for us...for our family...this is the path we are supposed to go on for schooling, at least at this point in time.

I have to admit, I'm so happy we finally made the decision for school for next year and have such a great peace with our decision as well :)

An Unexpected Sin (Sins of Salem #2)

Colonial Salem The moment the stranger's dark eyes meet hers, Anne Scudder's world is immediately overthrown by chaos. That single flare of desire is immediate, driving away all notions of propriety. Instead, Anne is consumed with sinful thoughts - ones that no unmarried girl should ever have for a man who isn't her husband... But Josiah Cromwell is no stranger. It's been six years since Josiah stole kisses from Anne, his best friend's younger sister. Six years since Josiah left after his best friend's death, burdened by the knowledge that he was responsible for destroying Anne's family. Now he's returned to claim the woman he can't live without. But even as their desire threatens to consume them both - body and soul - the dark workings of suspicion and witchcraft are afoot. Because in Salem, too much passion can lead a woman to ruin... and condemned to death.

Excerpt

She raked his hair. Clutched desperately at his back. Found it was she who moved against him, for he had eased his grip in favor of taking fierce hold of her breasts. In the dark and through her clothes, he put his mouth over first one, then the other. Desire toppled her sensibilities until she was left arching her back, every part of her begging to be closer. Begging for the kind of fulfillment she knew in her heart only he could deliver. Begging until he broke free. Breathing heavily, he bathed her in the lopsided, boyish grin she had long adored. “Your father will see me to the gallows for this,” he said in his low, husky voice. Though the logic of his words found her, she wanted not for sensibilities. She wanted Josiah. “My father sleeps upstairs.” Josiah took a deep breath. “It is not often I wish to be a lesser man,” he said, “but a lesser man has a certain advantage when a beautiful woman comes to him in the dark of the night.” A beautiful woman. Anne had never imagined such a description could belong to her. “You could never be a lesser man.” “Rest assured, if you return to my room in the dark of the night, I will be nothing more.” Though his tone was light, she did not miss its undercurrent. His serious nature made his words all the more thrilling, for they left little doubt as to what he wanted—or how badly he wanted it. She could not keep the smile from her voice as she asked, “Are you saying I need only walk from the room for a minute’s time to make a lesser man of you?” “I would like to think myself more honorable, but I make no promises in my current state.” “Perhaps we should test that supposition.” He grinned and leaned in, kissing her softly. “As much as I ache to know every inch of you,” he said, “it is not my desire to make off with your honor like a thief in the night.” She splayed her fingers across his warm, bare chest and took a deep breath of courage. “You have long stolen my heart. My honor will not be far behind.” Read the entire first chapter for FREE at Entangled Publishing. (No registration or cartwheels required.)

About Sarah Ballance
Sarah and her husband of what he calls "many long, long years" live on the mid-Atlantic coast with their six young children, all of whom are perfectly adorable when they're asleep. She never dreamed of becoming an author, but as a homeschooling mom, she often jokes she writes fiction because if she wants anyone to listen to her, she has to make them up. (As it turns out, her characters aren't much better than the kids). When not buried under piles of laundry, she may be found adrift in the Atlantic (preferably on a boat) or seeking that ever-elusive perfect writing spot where not even the kids can find her.

She loves creating unforgettable stories while putting her characters through an unkind amount of torture--a hobby that has nothing to do with living with six children. (Really.) Though she adores nail-biting mystery and edge-of-your-seat thrillers, Sarah writes in many genres including contemporary and ghostly paranormal romance. Her ever-growing roster of releases may be found on her website at sarahballance.com.

Do you Homeschool?

Homeschool...
I am wondering who all reading this homeschool's? :) what made you decide to homeschool?

I never thought I would homeschool before having kids. I kind of thought I could do it as I am a dual-certified teacher (early childhood and elementary education). Growing up I never heard of homeschooling. I had never heard much about it or knew people who did until after we got married and started attending the church we do. There are a fair amount of homeschooling families there!

I am so happy God lead us to this type of schooling. Right now it is cyber school. Kid1 has done K4, K5, and 1st grade (this year) with a state cyber school. Though for 2nd grade next year we are more than likely going to be switching to traditional homeschool. Cyber school has been nice - it has helped me know that I can actually do this :) It has also showed us that this us the best way to educate Kid1 right now. He is thriving with school, learning so much so fast. He is like a little sponge just soaking it all up, especially with Science, which is his favorite subject.

Though I will admit I have had to alter some of my thinking - he has taught me that he can be paying attention even when making his pencil "explode" and when it looks like he is somewhere out in space. Granted there are times he isn't paying attention, so I check regularly. He is pretty much your typical fidgety 6.5 year old boy :)

Am I scared and nervous about probably switching to traditional homeschooling? Oh yeah! Part of who I am - a worrier. But I will admit I am very excited at the same time. All the homeschool laws for Pennsylvania make me quite nervous, but I am doing some reading and learning as much about it as I can.

ABeka Anyone?

I was wondering if anyone out there reading this uses or has used ABeka Academy? Their DVD and/or streaming part. Accredited or independent study?

How did you like it? How did your kids like it? Pros? Cons?

Thanks!! :)

Ah, Spring...Finally!

We are finally having spring weather here - and I have to say it is SO nice to have warmer weather again.

This winter just seemed so long compared to other years in the past. I'm not sure why - maybe so many really cold days on a row...getting more snow storms than we remember.

I can say I have missed the warmer weather and am happy the start of it is here, at least off and on. The kids and I have gone on walks more lately, been to the playground, and has been nice to be able to dress in not-so-many layers :)

How's the weather where you are?

Happy Sunday everyone!

Grocery Shopping

I don't know about you all, but grocery shopping is one of my least favorite things to do, especially when I have both kids along with me. Then it usually just turns into a stressful situation, especially when it is a large shopping trip.

A local grocery store built a huge new store several years ago not too far from us and they started an online ordering service. You would 'shop' online, someone else would get all the groceries for you, and all I had to do was pull up, give them my name, pay, and they would load the groceries into the van for me. And I can still use coupons and my rewards card and everything else as if I had done all the shopping myself. I had used it a few times, especially after Kid2 was born and I was recovering from another c-section - was really helpful to have.

Well I have just started a 'diet' with the help of a friend of mine where it focuses on protein, veggies, small amount of fruits, and a small amount of dairy. This week I have just been using what I had at home until I could get grocery shopping. My husband suggested I try their online ordering system again since this was going to be a large order and since he is having to work a lot of overtime right now.

Wow, have they ever improved their online ordering system! It is now free to do (it had been $5.99 per order, which is why we didn't use it a whole lot) and they have added more stores too. Took me around 30 minutes to 'shop' and tomorrow within an hour time frame I get to go and pick up everything I ordered. SO SO nice! :)

Yes, might be a little lazy, but I stick to my list because I don't see all the other things I could buy, my kids (or husband) don't throw things in the cart that aren't on the list, and it is so much less stressful for large trips like this one was. Smaller trips for just a few things I wouldn't use it, but I think we will be using that more often now for larger trips.

Do any of your grocery stores have services like this available? To my knowledge, the store I went through is the only one around here that offers this awesome service :)

Schooling

As Kid1 got older, we began talking about school. My husband and I felt we were to homeschool. After talking to good friends of ours I learned more about one way they schooled - cyber school. We decided to look more into that and that was the route we went. Kid1 is now finishing up 1st grade through a state cyber charter school. He loves it...I love it too!

Lately, though, I have been looking into other options. I have heard rumors of some changes possibly coming. Also, I figured it would be good to have a back up plan incase it is needed. So I have been getting a little more information from another state cyber charter school, as well as ABeka Academy and Calvert.

I never thought figuring out things with cyber schooling / homeschooling would get so complicated some times and would be so difficult at times. As of right now, we are fairly certain we will be staying with the cyber charter school, but it is nice to have some back up options. Also they are nice to have incase something ever happens that the school would have to close. When Kid2 gets to school age, I plan to cyber/homeschool her as well.

I know it is not for everyone, but I know for us that we are supposed to do school at home in some way :) I know for Kid1 right now that it is the best for him! And Kid2 always asks when she gets to do school too :)
