Our Homeschooling Curriculum 2014-2015

I have shared some in other posts, but I thought I would make a post devoted to what we are using this year for homeschooling.

This will be our first year traditionally homeschooling. For Kindergarten and 1st grade for Kid1 we used a state cyber charter school. Good school, we just felt due to various circumstances that it was time to switch to traditional homeschool.

For Kid1:
He will be doing 2nd grade and we will be using the A Beka Academy DVD Independent Study program. So far after looking over all the curriculum and previewing the DVD's - I am very, very impressed! Love the 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Chappell, too!

From the website: "Video courses with master teachers are available in the Independent Study Program for four-and-five-year-old kindergarten and grades one through twelve. The parents receive books and the use of videos for independent instuction and are responsible to keep a record of the student’s grades and progress. Report cards, transcripts and diplomas are not issued from our office for the Independent Study Program."

Also for Kid1:
To add in some Pennsylvania history, I will be using State History from a Christian Perspective by A Helping Hand. We will be using their My State History Funbook. This is a fun way to introduce state history to a child and is geared for kids up through grade 3. We are doing the option of doing 1 lesson per week for 30 weeks. This comes with almost everything needed too.

From the website: "My State History Funbook is a color-cut-and-paste activity book which provides an introduction to your state through fun activities on an elementary or pre-school grade level. Your student will construct his own colorful scrap-book about his state, using pictures and cutouts that we provide along with pictures from free tourist literature."

For Kid2:
She is currently 3.5, so I decided to do a little preschool curriculum with her this year. We will be using Joyful Heart Bible and Rhyme. I had used the free version of this with Kid1 when he was younger. I was excited to find out that you could now pay $10 and get everything needed for the whole year in 1 download! Totally worth the money to purchase! This curriculum is only 3 days a week as well, which is nice for this age!

From the website: "Joyful Heart Bible and Rhyme is a chronological study of Bible stories, rhyming, and letters for 3-5 year olds. Don't let the name 'Bible and Rhyme' fool you though! In addition to chronological Bible history and phonemic awareness activities, this curriculum also includes an integrated alphabet study, developmentally appropriate math, science, and crafts!"
